Stitches

Caught by pest control thrice

Sent to AVA twice

Both times rescued in the nick of time

Indeed a cat with good karma

Now he is safe in the cattery

Waiting for that special person

To take him home

All this happened within a time span of one year.  The first time I rescued him from AVA with a letter from TC. Then he disappeared about 6 months later, most likely relocated by pest control.

As I later found out, he was caught again  2 months after his disappearance  and sent to AVA again, starving and sick. He was rescued once more and nursed back to health,  then after another 4 months I finally found him... healthy and well-fed at the cattery.

Stitches on his favourite chair.

Old pic of stitches

Someone told CWS that they saw Babu at Phyllis’ cattery.

When I visited today, I could not find Babu.  Mei Mei pointed at the fat whitish cat sitting on a chair, saying that was Babu...

That was my Stitches!!!  He went missing 6 months ago and Phyllis rescued him about 4 months ago. She told me that he was thin and sick and full of fleas at that time... he must have suffered a lot during that 2 months. I suspect that he had been caught by Pest Control and dumped in another area...

Blog EntryFound Patchy while looking for StitchesMay 1, '07 11:24 AM

Released Black Boy today and on the way back I looked for Stitches. A couple approached me to tell me about a cat on the 8th floor of blk *11area 2 causing them problems by defecating at the corridor. They said that the cat looks pregnant. I followed them up and as I had hoped after they described the cat…there was a well-fed Patchy. I explained to the couple about the tipped ears and that this cat has been sterilized. Also gave them my number and said that I would talk to the people who feed Patchy outside their door (they were not in at that time)…and advised them to sprinkle crushed moth balls around their flower pots.

Carried Patchy down and gave her some food but she looked frightened and ran up the stairs again. I can only hope to persuade the family to take her in.

Still no sight of Stitches…

Orange Boy had a relapse, sneezing and running nose, but now finally seems to get better. He is playing...running and catching paper balls. I noticed that he is now able to stand up on his hind legs to catch the ball in the air..almost back to full strength.

Mirko is also sneezing less but still has the eye discharge, one eye is only half open and quite red. I clean his eyes with saline and apply eye drops twice a day. Both of them are still confined to my room.

Stitches has fully recovered from flu but there is still no improvement in his skin condition. He has the run of the balcony while Silver and Sophia are kept in cages to prevent close contact with Stitches.

Still can't release Sophia...it's been raining the whole day.  If only we could build a shelter for her in those bushes...

Silver was contemplating jumping on the chair, but then wisely changed her mind. I guess she knows that her hind legs are still not strong enough.  She can walk and even jump down from the chair but not strong enough to stand up on her hind legs.  Will probably have to keep her in for several weeks until she regains her strength and is able to run from danger...unless she gets adopted first.

Silver is much better now…looks like she will make a full recovery soon. I wonder what happened to her…did someone kick or hit her or was she knocked by a car? All she wants is to follow someone home...

Sophia is still with me waiting for sunny days to come.

Stitches’ eczema has spread to the whole cheek area…it’s all covered with black stuff. Seems the cleaning and cream just made it worse. I was considering using spot-on but then the rest of his fur looks healthy and clean…no flea dirt. So I guess it can’t be a flea allergy.

Orange Boy is still sneezing and breathing noisily…licking and rubbing his nose.

Stitches is still sneezing but otherwise he looks much better, the fever is down and he is eating well. The wet eczema is still not improving.

Big Head’s eyes are both watery now but the new wound (torn skin next to the stitches) is closing up. He is now sleeping in the hammock. I can stroke him, syringe him and wipe his eyes clean but have to move very slowly as he is all tense…ready to defend himself.

Orange Boy has started coughing recently, so I am giving Vibravet to all three of them now.

There is a new black kitten at *14 area 2 (maybe about 6 months old). He has quite a big wound at his back, just where the tail starts. I suspect that he was bitten by the same cat that terrorized Stitches.

Fighter has a skin problem…hair loss, red irritated skin and even wounds at his neck and hind legs. Have applied neem oil several times but no improvement. Then started to apply the cream that I was given for Stitches’ eczema and that seems to help. Wonder if it could be mites? The Photo was taken a few months back, before he skin problem started.

Old Ginger and Sophia are not eating well…now I always give both of them Nutri-plus gel to supplement and improve appetite.

There is also a new and very skinny black-and-white boy…who doesn’t eat much… he too gets syringed with Nutri-plus.

Blog EntryStitches is safe for now...Dec 1, '06 7:20 AM

Unlike me, stitches was not traumatized. I cried yesterday just for the silly reason that I had trouble reading the map and bus guide to find my way to Pasir Panjang... a sleepless night followed and then at AVA I couldn't even remember my IC and hp numbers...my mind suddenly went totally blank.

Stitches seemed glad to be taken home and he was very hungry. The old wound at his cheek has opened up again and looks quite dirty. Will have to bring him to the vet if it doesn't improve in a few days time.

Blog EntryStitches at AVANov 30, '06 6:19 AM
for everyone

Stitches, who was sterilized in September and had wounds on his tail and cheek that needed stitching had been missing for 3 days already. I almost didn't call AVA, because I had spoken to the Property Manager before, and whenever any cat was missing from that area it never turned up at AVA....

It turned out that Stitches and another unknown and unsterilized cat had been caught by pest control at blk *10 on the 28th of Nov. The unsterilized cat had already been killed.

An anonymous complaint had been made directly to the MP about an Indian man feeding at the lift landing of blk *10 Area 2.

The Property Manager agreed to fax a letter to AVA, so I will be collecting Stitches tomorrow morning. He is also agreeable to putting up CWS posters on responsible feeding.

Blog EntryUpdate on Manja, Stitches and SophiaSep 19, '06 10:48 AM
for everyone

Manja’s wound looks much better now. Hope that Az and Sylvia can find the attacker and will manage to chase him away before Manja is released back. They have seen a new cat there…

Stitches is terrified of the grey -and-white male at *14 area 3 and will stay away from that place. Nowadays I find him at blk *11/*10. He must have been in another fight as his cheek wound was bleeding again.

Sophia is becoming less shy and has started walking around in the open space. Sylvia and myself always give her a treat of a can of Fancy Feast, which she likes very much. Hope she will put on some weight soon…

Will release Stitches and Sophia tonight.

I release Sophia with a heavy heart. She is old and frail,  just wanting a safe place to rest…

Blog EntryStitches on antibioticsAug 28, '06 6:55 AM
for everyone

Brought Stitches to the vet today...to have his stitches removed. The wound at he base of the tail did not heal well and he was given a course of antibiotics. Will have to keep him in for at least another week. Have moved him to the big cage with the hammocks to make his prolonged stay more comfortable.

Little Black and Bella were released yesterday. Now at last we can enjoy a bit of quiet :). No sounds at all from Sophia, and Stitches is also more on the quiet side. Poor Sophia, there is only skin and bone under all that matted fur. Will also keep her a little longer to get her to put on some weight, and do a little grooming.

Hope to trap Dirty Harry today, the last male left to be sterilized in area 1.

Blog EntryStitches and Genie sterilizedAug 18, '06 10:40 AM
for everyone

Stitches  is a newcomer at *14 area 2 and also Little Gey’s  new friend.  He must have gotten into a fight and ended up needing stitches on his face and at the base of his tail. The wounds were quite big but not infected. Have to keep him in for 10 days after which the stitches will be removed. He was also sterilized at the same time.

Genie is a new abandonee. From 2 blocks away she has now moved to *24 area 1 and surprisingly making friends with Rocky. Rocky has taken over *23/*24 as his new territory, chasing every other cat away, except for Genie.
