Pawprints in my Heart

My lap is too too empty, and cold
the soft resting head no longer there to warm it.
No comfort to be found, no furry body to stroke
my quiet companion gone....

My heart is broken, there are no other words
to write it - this empty ache, this space
you filled, loving always, never judging...
My friend has left, and my hands, arms, all
helpless to stop it.

Little one, fly free, where the fields are green
and filled with friends gone before. I will
carry you always, your pawprints ever beating,
running joyously to greet me whenever I call
and memory stirs in my heart...

Old Ginger is growing thiner and weaker. He has stopped eating on his own. I try to make him comfortable but he likes to curl up on a small stool in the corner most of the time.

Blog EntryBrought Old Ginger to the vetSep 11, '07 12:59 AM
for everyone

Brought Old Ginger and Sophus to the vet this morning. No taxi in sight so I took the bus with the 2 carriers…pushing my luck ;) The bus drivers on this route are ok or maybe they are just tired of me blocking their lane with my bicycle…

The vet thinks that it may be early kidney disease and prescribed Fortekor, Clavulox and something to improve appetite and also recommended k/d diet. I took one can just to try it out. It costs about the same as Avoderm but actually the latter has better ingredients and no by-products.

Old Ginger is still dehydrated and today he refused to eat the fish…will have to force-feed him again.

Old Ginger has hardly eaten anything for the past 4 days. He would still come and look at the food and just drink a lot of water. He has become very thin again. Today he slept on the seat of a motorcycle, usually he would sleep under the cars. His former caregiver called yesterday to ask about him.

Strange that he ate so well after the operation and then after release again poor appetite and now worse…

Please send metta and prayers for Old Ginger...and also for Gemma, the sweet little boy at Phyllis' cattery who will need a miracle to recover.

Blog EntryDouble Whammy!Jul 21, '07 6:33 AM

Sleepless nights thanks to Rocky and back problems due to an old injury.

Rocky doesn’t get tired of his constant meow…meooow…meoooow!

Have to keep him in the bathroom at night so at least the neighbours can sleep.

His wound is not healing and I noticed hat he was licking it. So on went the Elizabethan collar yesterday. However, he managed to get it off during the night and now I have tightened it a bit more.

M thinks that the wound needs stitching but I will wait a little longer…I guess it wasn’t healing because of the licking.

During the day all 3 cats (Rocky, Misty and Sunshine) are together on he balcony. All are eating well and so far seem to be getting along.  Misty is playing next to Rocky…seems to have all forgotten how he used to chase her across the car park.

Old Ginger is still skinny, but not as bad as before. He has again poor appetite.

Every night I have to coax him to eat at least 1/4 to 1/3 of a can of Avoderm.

Blog EntrySilver, Old Ginger, Sandy and RockyJul 8, '07 12:09 PM
for everyone

At last Silver has found a good and loving home!  Hope she will soon get along well with the 3 other feline family members. For the time being she has her own big double-story cage with hammock.

Old Ginger is recovering well…a few more days and he can be released back.

Sandy is now acting more like her old self. The Tail seems broken though…it has now a kink in the middle. I didn’t notice any smell so hopefully it is healing. I tried to mix a Vibravet tablet in her food…but she didn’t eat it. Will get some Clavulox tomorrow and try again.

Rocky has been fighting again. The puncture wounds at his ears are healing but the one on his forehead looks infected and there is a smell. I think he needs to take a course of antibiotics in addition to the antibiotic powder.

Old Ginger is still not eating. The area under the chin looks quite bad. He probably also has some other health problems

 Old photo

Old Ginger has not been eating and has become very thin and also very dehydrated. Yesterday I noticed the large lump under his chin.

Took him to the vet this morning and he was put on a drip and had the abscess drained under anesthetic.

Afterwards, he drank a whole bowl full of water but didn’t touch the food. Luckily, he is easy to syringe and medicate.

At the vet I happened to meet the caregiver who had sterilised Old Ginger and also claimed him back from AVA 8 years ago. I think he must be at least 10 years old now.

Stitches is still sneezing but otherwise he looks much better, the fever is down and he is eating well. The wet eczema is still not improving.

Big Head’s eyes are both watery now but the new wound (torn skin next to the stitches) is closing up. He is now sleeping in the hammock. I can stroke him, syringe him and wipe his eyes clean but have to move very slowly as he is all tense…ready to defend himself.

Orange Boy has started coughing recently, so I am giving Vibravet to all three of them now.

There is a new black kitten at *14 area 2 (maybe about 6 months old). He has quite a big wound at his back, just where the tail starts. I suspect that he was bitten by the same cat that terrorized Stitches.

Fighter has a skin problem…hair loss, red irritated skin and even wounds at his neck and hind legs. Have applied neem oil several times but no improvement. Then started to apply the cream that I was given for Stitches’ eczema and that seems to help. Wonder if it could be mites? The Photo was taken a few months back, before he skin problem started.

Old Ginger and Sophia are not eating well…now I always give both of them Nutri-plus gel to supplement and improve appetite.

There is also a new and very skinny black-and-white boy…who doesn’t eat much… he too gets syringed with Nutri-plus.

Blog EntryUpdate on Fury, Old Ginger, Panther and SophiaNov 28, '06 6:23 AM
for everyone

Fury had to be released after 2 days. She is one of those very stubborn cats who refuse to eat in captivity.  She went straight into the condo compound hiding under a car. I left a paper bowl of food where she could see it. Fury has been back for every feeding since…eating large portions…so I guess she is fine.

There is this Old Ginger at *21 Area 1. He is quite thin and always needs some coaxing before eating his food. I started to give him Fancy Feast as he seems to like it better…but lately he hardly eats anything…started giving him Nutri-plus gel.

I have not seen the big cross-eyed Panther (blk *21) for several days. Hope he is safe…Panther is very afraid of this new big Siamese male cat that appeared recently. This cat must belong to someone because he looks well fed and is never interested in food… only in terrorizing the other cats.

Sophia (the old black Persian cross at *48 Area 3) is doing well. She looks stronger and seems she has put on a little weight. We (the Aunty, Sylvia and me) pamper her a lot, giving her special treats and sitting with her coaxing her to eat more…someone else is also feeding her in the morning.
