Blog EntryBlack kitten sterilisedMay 7, '08 3:37 AM

Wasted my effort installing wire-mesh at the kitchen window of blk  *21 family... they keep opening the un-meshed side too. The poor kitten has a litter tray but there was now litter or even newspaper in it... just an empty plastic bowl. No surprise he preferred the kitchen sink to do his business...sigh! At least they keep him indoors now.

After I took the kitten home, the new female tabby appeared. I let her eat first and then tried to put her in the carrier... but she struggled and ran off, also saw another newbie... siamese-mix...

Twirly is eating well now, and no more vomitting...hope he will put on some weight soon.

I had arranged with the son of the Chinese family staying on the second floor to wire mesh the window facing the corridor, the mother had approved. When I came with the mesh today the father refused and threatened to throw the kitten if it causes so much trouble. In the end he allowed me to fix the mesh to the kitchen window instead.

Saw two more new abandonees ...they came out to finish the left-overs after the community cats had their fill. I left some food behind for them...both are very shy.

Now listening to the Heart Sutra my mind is at peace and I breathe easily...

Went searching for the injured cat but unsuccessfully. Feeders and cleaners in the area have been informed. It's been many days now and the cat has still not been found.

Yesterday night the cleaner told me that his friend saw the injured cat at the playground in front of blk 220 the day before.

After the search, already close to midnight, I met with Penny to see a Malay family supposed to have 20 cats. They planned to abandon them all because of the new grandchild. We talked to them about getting the cats sterilised and Penny will help to bring the pregnant female to the vet on Monday.

The lady counted the cats while we were there and then said that she had only 8 cats. Strange that she didn't know how many cats... we suspect that some have  already been abandoned.

There was a tiny kitten with signs of flu or could it be eye irritation due to fleas? All I had with me was the antibiotic powder, so we put some on the skin sores. The kitten's mother  and some of the other cats also have skin problems... fleas and probably mites too. We told her to get the flea spray but she says she can't afford the $30.-. She is also too busy to bring the cats for sterilization…

We were very tired and frustrated when we left... We have to do everything for her and in the end she may still throw the cats downstairs. There is no caregiver in that area so pest control will round them up..sterilised or not.

To top it off, someone complained to the MP about cats climbing on top of cars at the multi-storey car park next to the CC. The complainant was not identified !!!

The seven-month-old kitten was rescued by Penny and  had been adopted by a family staying near her place. They meshed their front gate but DIDN'T MESH THEIR WINDOWS.

Penny called at 8.30am as she didn't know what to do. She said the kitten's paws felt cold and as she was also supposed to bring another cat with kidney failure for x-rays to Mt. Pleasant (Springside) this morning, she decided to bring both cats there.

The kitten has a fractured jaw and was hospitalized. According to Penny the family refused to pay any part of the vet fees and suggested to let the kitten die. Later on they said they would pay half of the medical expenses...

Penny will not return the kitten to them unless they wire-mesh all their windows.

Fifi looks fine...but no wire-mesh in this 3rd floor appartment.

I gave the adopter more time…to give her the chance to save face and get Black Pearl done before letting me visit.

Today I sent her another sms requesting to visit Dark Pearl. She didn’t reply but called Sharifah instead.

The adopter is now trying to blackmail me….saying she would report me to HDB. She also admitted to Sharifah that she does not want to sterilise the male cat (Dark Pearl). Sharifah also suspects abuse…as the adopter said something about the cat taking food and must be punished.

I have spoken to Dawn and send a final e-mail mentioning that I will consider taking her to court.

The other option I am thinking about is to make a police report  regarding suspected abuse. If she is as hostile to the cats as she is towards humans…then I fear for the cats’ safety.

Received an sms from Fizah last month...she wants her 2 "Persians" to be sterilised. I said she would have to wait until next month and asked her how the mother cat and the kittens were. No reply!

Then a few days ago I went up with the intention of getting the kittens sterilised. They were no longer around...She told me they were given to her cousin.

Cinderella looked well...so hopefully they will not dump her...or give to the cousin.

The two Persians (females) will be done on Monday. Will just  lend her the carriers and she will then bring them on her own.

Is Dark Pearl really in good hands? Now I wonder....

Dark Pearl (male) was adopted in early June and I did not see any need to visit because the photos and emails seemed to indicate that he is much loved and happy in his new home and having a female companion.

The adopter signed a contract, the terms of which include that the cat be sterilised at age of 6 month (which would be Sept ’07) and also visiting rights.

I advised her to get her other (female) cat sterilised first and I believe she has done so. However when it was time for Dark Pearl she came up with many excuses…including that she herself is pregnant so she cant bring him to the vet, her vet charges are expensive, waiting for her salary to come in, the vet advised to have him sterilised at age of 10 month and etc…

Of course I did offer to pick him up and do everything for her free of charge…but I was told to mind my on business.

In the end she said that she would sterilize him mid November. I waited another month…

Then no reply to my sms yesterday (asking whether he has been done), so I told her that I wish to visit him next week.

This is the reply I received:

“Had already send Fifi for sterilization! End of conversation n stop disturbing me! This will be your last warning! I mean it this time!”

I have my doubts so I told her that I insist to see for myself.

To which she rudely replied:

“HEY LADY!! BUZZ OFF N U R NOT WELCOME TO MY HOUSE!! JUST BLOODY LEAVE ME ALONE!!!….”

The "owner" came down with her grandson but refused to do anything for the kitten as it was "just a cat!". Maxijane and myself were going to bring it to the vet ...but then it died quickly, did not suffer long. We will bury the kitten later. The little grey tabby was no more than 3 months old.

Rest in peace little kitten...

Blog EntryCat fell from the 4th floor...again!Aug 30, '07 2:15 PM
for everyone

While at the void deck changing Darly’s water bowl, I saw a man and a lady with torchlights searching for something and then the young lady picked up a white cat.

I was shocked to hear that the cat had fallen from the 4th floor.

It looked alright, but there could be internal injuries. Then my jaw dropped when the young lady told me that the cat fell before and this was in fact the 4th time. Why didn’t they mesh the windows??? They replied that it fell from parapet. No, they can’t keep the cats in (I think they have 4 or 5) because of the smell… and no, they are not sterilised.

Yes, there have been complaints. They wanted to bring the cats to SPCA (they are aware hat the cats will most probably be killed) but they didn’t do so because they claimed there would be a fee for each cat. They were also thinking of putting them downstairs but didn’t have the heart to do it... and they will also be shifting out soon…  somehow I don’t think the cats will be going to the new house.

Hazlina will try to talk to them…
