There were several enquiries about the 3 kittens...but no one seemed suitable. Not a good sign when the first question is "Are they for free?" or another one told me that her cat went missing but she is still not willing to wire-mesh the gate...

Now the question is whether to give the kitten to a person who seems responsible and will keep the kitten indoors but refuses to mesh the windows. As Penny put it "90% of adopters do not want to wire-mesh".

Another caregiver said that she would rather put the kittens back on the streets. I am not so sure that this would be best... there are just too many dangers. The average life-span of a community cat is 2 years!

I saw another mother and 3 kittens (now left only 2) hiding at a construction site in an area with no caregiver. The kittens are about 3 months old and white with black patches. All I can do is feed them....

I have my fair share of funny adopters too.

1) My cat dare not go near the window after I scolded her. [*_* "]
2) My sister's cat fell from the 4th floor but didnt die ("x_x)
3) My mother's cat did fell once and broke his teeth but he live till 19 :_(
#1-3 is from the same family!! (OMG!!)

4) I have one came to view cat-A and ending up like cat-B.
5) I have one quickly ask the girl friend come and see their sharp nails. (hello cat scratches is inevitable if you wanna keep cats, unless you declaw or put a cap on)

However it's not all bitter taste. I have a very nice gentleman who didnt utter a sound and I only notice his got scratched when I saw blood on his hand. And he also adopted the pair that I have almost zero enquiry. So this adopter made up for all not very up to par adopter.

I too have little requests because the adoption conditions are spelt out very clearly on the website. I rather have a few genuine ones than many insincere ones. I think once we decide to rehome any cat or kitten, its "future" is now totally dependent on our decision making. We are still responsible for its fall from an unmeshed window.

I even offer to buy the mesh and put it up! "Doesn't look nice" is the usual reason.

Vegancat, It is different if the kittens are safe in a cattery. I can only keep these 3 temporarily, so worse to worse I will have to let them go to an unmeshed home, because I will also be responsible if they get run over, trapped or abused at Novena... and also the feeder there is not very reliable.
If these 3 get re-homed then the surviving 2 kittens at the construction site can get a chance. Yesterday I found another mother cat with two kittens at the coffee shop just next to the construction site. Then there is the next batch of Novena kittens… I have to take what I think is the lesser risk for them. If I wait too long for the right adopter then their chance is gone.

One of my adopter actually dont like the plastic mesh too. What he did was that he when to some art shop and buy those acrylic sheets and tie to the grill. I thought that is a brilliant idea. You got to retain the look of your house and still provide some degree of safety for kitties.

Maybe you could suggest that to them.

Do those sheets have holes for ventilation? Would be good to have a photo of it to show to adopters.

I think these acrylic sheets breaks easily. I didnt see him punching any holes in them but leaving in-between gaps for air to come in. I'll try to get him to take a photo.
